Almost three-quarters of major corporations have used the concept of the Balanced Business Scorecard in some form or other, yet only 3 out of 10 achieved the expected benefits from this tool. We consider the success factors which were commonly present in those winning organizations, and ask ‘What Is the Balanced Scorecard?’ and challenge whether that is even the right question to be asking.
