Axon to provide Business Transformation Services as Capita is recommended as preferred bidder at Birmingham City Council 01/12/2005

Birmingham City Council’s Cabinet will be issued with a report today that recommends that Capita should become their preferred strategic partner to deliver a wide range of services to support the Council’s leading edge business transformation strategy. An innovative new joint venture (JV) is proposed, the Service Birmingham Partnership, in which Capita will have a significant majority shareholding alongside the Council. The JV will be contracted to deliver a range of services to support the Council’s transformation programme, with an initial ICT contract expected to be worth £424 million to the JV over a 10 year partnership (representing the Council’s current projected spend and investment on ICT and associated services over the period).

The value and scope of Business Transformation projects beyond the ICT contract will be determined by the Council over the course of the ten year Business Transformation Strategic Partnership (BTSP).  Axon has worked in close cooperation with Capita during the selection process and will play a key role in these projects, providing business transformation services - a key capability that was highlighted in the cabinet paper published today.

Mark Hunter, Axon Chief Executive said, "Birmingham City Council is the largest local authority in Europe and the BTSP selection process was particularly rigorous. Whilst the value of our engagement is not yet known, we are looking forward to working in partnership with Capita and Birmingham City Council to deliver real value to the people of Birmingham."

The Birmingham City Council press release and the cabinet paper describing the background to the recommendation will be available on the BCC website www.birmingham.gov.uk http://www.birmingham.gov.uk
